As the weather warms staying hydrated is more important than ever and although water is the healthiest option, it’s not always our first choice. So instead of grabbing that cold soda out of the cooler on a hot afternoon, take a few minutes each morning to create healthier selections.
Fruit, vegetables and herbs are in abundance this time of year and are available at your local grocer, farmers markets or even in your own backyard.
Below is a simple recipe, but take the time to put together your own delicious combinations and create something uniquely your own.
Watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, rosemary, mint, thyme, dill, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, honeydew, cantaloupe, oranges, lime or lemon. The flavor combinations are endless, experiment with different options as the seasons move around the wheel.
Cucumber, Lemon and Mint Water
8 cups of water
1 cucumber, sliced, do not remove peel
1 lemon, sliced, zest still on
2 sprigs mint
- Fill medium size bowl with about one cup of your water.
- Add cucumber, lemon and mint to bowl with water and lightly muddle to release flavor.
- Add water from bowl to remaining 7 cups water.
- Cover and chill 2 hours or overnight.
